Shooting Was Attempted Murder/Suicide


"STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO - Two people were found shot late Friday morning in Steamboat Springs, after police forced their way into a home during a standoff.

"According to Steamboat Springs police Chief J.D. Hays, a man and woman were shot and both were taken to the Yampa Valley Medical Center.

"The incident began around 9:37 a.m. when police conducted a welfare check at 2739 Iris Lane. The woman's co-workers called police when she didn't show up for work.

"Officers heard a gunshot as they approached the front door of the home and called in the SWAT team.

"A standoff continued until about 11 a.m. when SWAT officers entered the home and found the wounded couple.

"Hays said the woman appeared to have been shot before they arrived. She was shot in the head and the man was shot in the chest, police said.

"Both were conscious and breathing when they were taken to the hospital."
