Painters Alert Police After Finding Body

"THOMASTON, GA — Deputies responded to a call to 177 Harvey Street in reference to what is being classified a murder/suicide involving 45-year-old David Clay Garrett and his uncle, 75-year-old Richard Earl Garrett.

"According to Maj. Dan Kilgore, of the Upson County Sheriff’s Office, the call was received at approximately 7:25 p.m. when individuals who had been working at the residence looked in a window of a detached apartment and discovered a body.

"`Some workers who had been doing some painting work out there talked to both men Wednesday. They went back out Thursday and didn’t find anyone, so they left a note. When they returned Friday, the note was untouched, so they looked in a window and saw a body laying there, and they called and reported it,` Kilgore said.

"After investigators gained entry to the apartment, both men’s bodies were located, with each having sustained a single gunshot wound.

"`Through our investigation, it was determined that Clay had shot his uncle and later shot himself,` Kilgore said.

"Although Clay Garrett left no suicide note behind, Kilgore said all evidence indicates the incident was a murder-suicide with no one else involved in the incident."
