Attempted Murder/Suicide Leaves 1 Dead, 1 Injured


"DYER, IN — Officers found a 95-year-old woman dead in her home Sunday morning when they responded to check on a man who apparently had shot himself, police said.

"When police arrived just after 6 a.m. Sunday at a home in the 800 block of Killarney Drive in Dyer, they found a 74-year-old man with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head and a 95-year-old woman dead, a news release states.

"The woman, Blanch Bradley, had suffered a gunshot wound to her chest, the Lake County coroner's office said.

"Bradley is believed to be the man's mother, the release states.

"The coroner's office said the woman's death apparently was a homicide.

"Two other family members were in the home when police arrived, officials said.

"The man was rushed to a local hospital, and Dyer police are investigating."

  1. On the Web, typos are forever. All news reports so far have called this poor woman "Blach Bradley", which is obviously incorrect.

    I would've spelled her name "Blanche" but that's not how she—or her parents—spelled it.
