Death In An Assisted Living Facility
"Conroe, TX - An elderly Montgomery couple died Saturday night from an apparent murder-suicide at an assisted-living and rehabilitation center in Conroe.
"Responding to a 9-1-1 call from Park Manor on Grand Lake Drive at 9:05 p.m. Saturday, Conroe police officers found Virginia Danner and her husband George Danner Jr. – both 77 years old – in her room with fatal gunshot wounds to their heads, Sgt. Grange McCreary said.
"Their birthdays only days apart, the Danners were married 55 years, McCreary said. Virginia Danner resided in the facility for the past 2-1/2 weeks undergoing rehabilitation following a stroke, Park Manor Administrator Sue Morgan said.
"The bodies were transported to the Southeast Texas Forensic Center in Conroe for autopsy as police investigators seek motives for the shooting.
"`We were told she was terminally ill,` McCreary said. `We don’t know if he (George Danner) did this on his own. We think there might’ve been a pact between the couple, but that is only speculation at this point.`
"George Danner was transported to nearby Conroe Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 9:30 p.m. Saturday by medical staff, McCreary said. Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Trey Spikes pronounced Virginia Danner dead at 10:45 p.m. Saturday at Park Manor."
