Poverty Drives Man To Desperate Act

"GHAZIABAD, India - Driven by poverty, a man here allegedly killed his five children, critically injured his wife and then attempted suicide, police said on Monday.

"Ravindra Verma, 38, and his wife Durgawati, 35, were found with stab wounds in their house in Rosy Colony in Vijay Nagar here by neighbours at around 7am on Monday. The residents were shocked to find their five children lying dead, police said.

"They called the police, who rushed Verma and his wife to a hospital in this city adjoining New Delhi. Their condition is said to be critical."
