Family Members Find Couple Dead
"CHURCH HILL, TN — A Church Hill couple was found dead in their home Saturday afternoon from an apparent murder-suicide, authorities said.
"Joseph Jones, 61, and his wife, Patricia Jones, 53, both of 6048 Carters Valley Road, were found shot to death after the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of a possible shooting at the residence.
"Hawkins County Sheriff Roger Christian said authorities were notified around 3:45 p.m. after family members of Patricia Jones discovered the bodies.
"`Two of Patricia Jones’ daughters had gone to the residence after she had failed to show up for a family gathering,` Christian said. `When they went there, they looked in and could see Mr. Jones through the window. Because the door was locked, they broke the window and went in, and that’s when they found them.`
"Although authorities are fairly certain the shooting was a murder-suicide, Christian said the case is still under investigation to determine a motive and rule out other possibilities.
"The couple had been married close to three years and did not appear to have a history of domestic violence, Christian said."
