1 Dead, 1 Critical After Shots Fired In Chinese Restaurant
"WESTPORT, MA — Authorities said a 64-year-old Fall River man was killed and his estranged wife is critically injured, after an alleged murder-suicide late Sunday night inside the Oriental Pearl Restaurant, 576 State Road.
"Gregg Miliote, a spokesman for District Attorney C. Samuel Sutter, today identified the deceased husband as Paul Murphy and the estranged wife as Joan Murphy, 57, also of Fall River.
"Miliote said Paul Murphy is alleged to have shot his estranged wife inside the restaurant and then shot and killed himself.
"Joan Murphy was transported to Charlton Memorial Hospital, Fall River, and then transferred to Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, R.I., where she is in critical condition, according to Miliote.
"Miliote said Westport police received a 911 call about 11 p.m. Sunday about shots being fired inside the restaurant.
"He said the investigation by the district attorney’s office, state police detectives and Westport police is continuing."
