Elderly Couple Hospitalized
"BRADLEY, IL - Bradley police are calling a Sunday morning shooting in Bradley that left two elderly residents hospitalized a murder-suicide attempt.
"The couple, Bobbie B. Karr, 86, and Dorothy J. Karr, 84, both suffered gun shot wounds to the head after Bradley police and the Bradley Fire Department responded to a 911 call at their residence, located at 644 Juniper Lane. The shooting occurred as a police officer walked out of the residence to meet with ambulance personnel.
"The couple was airlifted to undisclosed hospitals in Chicago.
"Steve Coy, Bradley Police Chief, said an officer was responding to a 911 call Dorothy had apparently made at around 10:20 a.m. complaining of back pain. When the ambulance arrived, the officer went outside to direct firefighters into the house, and then heard the gunshots.
"Police found Dorothy on a couch with a gun shot wound to the head. In a bathroom, Bobbie was lying on the floor, also with a gunshot wound to the head. Both are still alive, but their condition was unknown as of Sunday afternoon, Coy said.
"No charges have yet been filed, Coy said.
"Neighbors and police officials believe Dorothy had previously attempted suicide about six years ago, but do not have specific details about that incident. One neighbor, John Arends, whose house shares a fence with the Karr residence, said Bobbie recently told him, `She's not really satisfied with anything that's going on.`"
