Unhappy New Year
"HOUSTON, TX - Houston police are sorting out the details of a very public, deadly shooting in north-west Houston that left two bodies lying in the street Thursday afternoon. It happened around 1:30 on Talina Way.
"It's a bad start to 2010 for the family dealing with the fallout from what police are calling a murder-suicide.
"Investigators say a man shot his wife in the driveway before taking his own life in the street outside their home.
"`They've only known each other for a year,` said police Investigator Phillip Guerrero.
"Houston police said the couple in their mid-30s had only lived together for a month. A week ago the man started having problems and threatened suicide if his wife left him.
"Investigators spent more than 4 hours on the scene interviewing family members to find out exactly what happened.
"`There weren't any discussions or arguments today. He asked her to take him over to a location on I-10. When they came outside he started shooting at her, then walked over to his truck and shot himself,` said Guerrero.
"While family members stood by in shock, likely on their minds was the woman's 9-year-old daughter who lived with the couple. Police haven't sorted out what will happen to her."
