System Failure Results In Murder/Suicide
"WEST HAVEN, CT - Police are investigating a suspected murder-suicide that occurred early Sunday morning after a man arrested for family violence offenses the day before returned home, violating an order not to.
"According to West Haven police, Selami Ozdemir, of 341 Blohm St., was arrested Saturday afternoon on charges of disorderly conduct, risk of injury to a minor, third-degree assault and violation of a protective order, which had been issued after a September domestic incident. His bond was set at $25,000, which he posted. As a condition of his release, Ozdemir was prohibited from returning home until after he appeared in court.
"But hours later, around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Ozdemir's wife, Shengyl Rasim, called police to report that Ozdemir had returned home and was banging on the door. He left the scene before police arrived, according to police.
"About a half hour later, the police department received another 911 call from the home. Dispatchers could hear only the sound of crying and banging noises, according to police.
"Police had to force entry into the home, where they found the bodies of Rasim and Ozdemir, both dead from apparent gunshot wounds. Police are still investigating the incident, but are not seeking additional suspects.
"According to court records, Ozdemir was arrested in September on charges of second-degree assault, risk of injury to a child and second-degree threatening. The case was pending and being handled in a court family violence program."
