Police Take Days To Get A Clue

"MUSKOGEE, OK — Muskogee police say the fatal shooting of a man and the wounding of a woman last week are now being investigated as a murder-suicide.

"Investigators confirmed Monday that 30-year-old Melissa Thayer, who was shot Wednesday at her home, died Saturday afternoon.

"Police say 37-year-old Michael Shane Johnson wounded Thayer then shot himself in the head.

"Officers were called to 1619 S. Aberdeen St. at 1:43 a.m. Wednesday on a report that shots had been fired. Lt. Bobby Lee says Johnson talked with a police negotiator by phone for several hours.

"When police heard gunshots, officers went inside and found the couple in the bathroom.

"Investigator Greg Martin says Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene."
