Death In A Toyota SUV

"LAUDERDALE COUNTY, AL - Three people were killed Monday night in what law enforcement officials are labeling a double murder-suicide involving a Lauderdale County man and his estranged wife.

"Identities of the three people were not released as of 11:30 p.m. Monday. Two men and a woman died in the shooting outside a manufactured home, authorities said.

"Among the dead is a 37-year-old man who sheriff's investigators believe killed himself shortly after shooting his wife and another man who were sitting in a vehicle parked outside the estranged couple's manufactured home. His wife was 27 and the man in the Toyota sports utility vehicle with her was 23, according to Sheriff Ronnie Willis.

"The shooting occurred on Lauderdale 472, near Alabama 64. The residence is five miles west of Lexington in a wooded area about 150 yards from the road.

"Authorities were investigating the possibility that the shootings occurred as early as Sunday night. They said one of the woman's friends notified authorities of the shooting about 9:30 p.m. Monday. They added that the last time the shooter was seen or heard from was about 8 p.m. Sunday.

"Details of the shooting and motive were not immediately known as sheriff's investigators continued to interview witnesses and neighbors Monday night.

"Emergency workers at the scene said it appears the shooter saw his wife and the other man in the vehicle. He came out of the manufactured home with a shotgun, went to the vehicle and killed them, authorities said. The shooter's body was found on the ground outside the vehicle, with the gun next to his body."
