SWAT Team Arrives In Time To Find Bodies

"COVINGTON, GA — A domestic dispute at a residence in a quiet subdivision in western Newton County ended in the death of a husband and wife Thursday morning.

"According to Newton County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Keith Crum, a call came in early Thursday from 60 Fairview Chase from a woman who told 911 dispatchers that her husband was threatening her.

"Deputies were sent to the scene, but when they repeatedly knocked on the door and tried to make contact with the residents, there was no response.

"`After a certain amount of time, they notified their supervisors and the SWAT team was called out,` Crum said.

"SWAT officers tried to contact the residents via phone, by use of a public address system and finally they threw a `flashbang` stun device through a window of the home.

"`They still couldn’t make contact so the SWAT team made dynamic entry into the house,` Crum said, adding that meant they knocked down the doors.

"Inside they found a man and woman, both deceased, and who appeared to have been shot, Crum said. He said names were being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Law enforcement found one else in the residence.

"`We haven’t reached a conclusion on what happened. We haven’t uncovered any evidence so far that has led us to exclude the possibility of murder/suicide,` he said.

"The couple are believed to be in their 50s and reportedly are the parents of a grown son and daughter. The man is believed to have been a salesman with a plastics company.

"Crum said there was no history of calls concerning domestic violence at the location, nor were the dead couple known to law enforcement."
