"Very Quiet But Nice" Couple Dead
"COLUMBIA HEIGHTS, MN - In what Police are calling a murder-suicide, two people are dead after a shooting that took place in a Columbia Heights parking lot Saturday morning.
"At about 10:30 a.m., a white Buick followed a woman into the parking lot of a Chinese restaurant of the 4900 block of Cental Avenue, according to witness reports.
"A Columbia Heights Police Officer was a half block away when police say the man shot the woman then turned the gun on himself.
"`It does appear to be a husband and wife,` said Scott Nadeau.
"Columbia Heights Police have not released the names of the victims but the white Buick is registered to a man who lives in a Columbia Heights home three blocks east of the crime scene.
"Crime scene tape now surrounds that home.
"Neighbor Tom O'Brien said a For Sale sign went up in front of the house a little more than one month ago.
"`I'd heard they didn't get along a little bit. It's a shock. It's a huge shock,` O'Brien said.
"Albert Kordiak, a former Anoka County Commissioner and neighbor, said he spoke to the man and woman who lived at the house several times.
"`I just thought a great deal of him. She always kind of stayed in the background not saying so much,` Kordiak said.
"Other neighbors also described the couple as very quiet but nice.
"Asia Chow Mein Restaurant, the business that uses the parking lot where the shooting took place, has reopened since this morning's incident, restaurant owners said."
