Shooter Had A History Of Mental Illness
"SHAWNEE, OK — Shawnee Police say a 17-year-old boy shot two people Wednesday, October 18, then killed himself.
"Around 5 p.m. in the 800 block of W. 9th Street, the teen shot 38-year-old Valerie Kerr. Police say the bullet struck Kerr in the head, traveled through her body and struck 42-year-old Billy Kirby in the arm.
"Kerr was killed. The teen then turned the gun on himself and committed suicide.
"Kirby survived. He was treated at a hospital and released. Police say the shooter was Kirby's younger brother, and Kerr was Kirby's girlfriend. All three lived together at the house.
"There were two other people in the house at the time of the shooting but no one else was hurt.
"According to police, the shooter had a history of mental issues but investigators are not saying what events led up to the shooting."
