Death Of Elderly Couple Confuses Cops

"Rockville, MD - The bodies of a man and woman, believed to be a couple in their late 70s or early 80s, were found in their Rockville apartment this morning.

"Managers of the apartment in the 100 block of Monroe Street called police about 11:30 a.m. and asked them to check on the couple, since they had not been seen recently, Rockville Police Chief Terrance N. Treschuk said.

"Several days of newspapers had accumulated at the doorstep and the bodies were found after managers opened the door for police.

"Investigators are looking into whether the case is a double murder, murder-suicide or suicide.

"`It doesn't appear to be anything from the outside,` Capt. Robert Rappoport said. `It's kind of unlikely to get two natural deaths at the same time like that.`"
