"Armidale, Australia - A couple died in an apparent murder-suicide shooting in the state's New England area tonight.

"Neighbours alerted police to a house in Kennedy St, Armidale about 7pm after hearing shots fired.

"When police arrived, they found a man dead in the house from a gunshot wound.

"A NSW Ambulance spokeswoman said they also found a woman, aged 25, at the house with `critical head injuries` from a gunshot wound to the head.

"She died a shortly after arriving at Armidale Hospital.

"Police are not treating the death of the man as suspicious and described the deaths as a `domestic-related incident`.

"Crime scene and forensic services were also examining the house and officers were investigating the deaths."
