Victim Was Held Against Her Will
"McCOMB, MS - Two people are dead in an apparent murder-suicide in McComb. Police Chief Gregory Martin says it happened after midnight Thursday at the National Inn on Delaware Avenue.
"Martin identified the victims as Michael S. Smith, 42, of Centerville and Smith's estranged wife, Katherine L. Smith, 39, who was living in St. Francisville, Louisiana.
"Martin says an initial investigation indicates that Katherine Smith was being held against her will when the couple checked into the motel Wednesday night. She managed to break free and run to the lobby, where someone called police around 12:30 a.m. Thursday.
"Martin says her husband found her there and chased her into a bathroom, where he fatally shot her and then himself.
"Authorities in Louisiana are also investigating reports that Michael Smith had kidnapped his wife before driving her to McComb."
