Murder/Suicide Ends Medical Problems For Three
"EAST POINT, GA - `It's shocking. It's devastating. I mean, it's just emotionally heart wrenching.`
"Neighborhood association president Chaplain Bridgewater speaks for many residents of a quiet street in the Atlanta suburb of East Point when he describes his reactions to the tragedy that happened around 3 pm Sunday at 2867 Stone Drive.
"An couple in their eighties, who've lived there for decades, was celebrating their 57th wedding anniversary with several family members.
"Without warning, the elderly husband suddenly shot to death his 12-year-old grandson, his wife and then himself in the backyard.
"`A fight did not take place; there was no conflict,` says Police Detective Cliff Chandler, `so we're as much at a loss as to why this shooting took place as the family is.`
"Chandler says other family members were inside the house when the backyard shooting happened and they came rushing outside to find the 3 victims.
"Long time neighbors [said] the couple and their grandson all had medical problems."
