Financial Hardship Pushes Woman Over The Edge
"WALNUT CREEK, CA — A Walnut Creek woman shot and killed her 16-year-old son and then turned the weapon on herself in a murder-suicide at Mt. Diablo State Park, the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office said.
"The body of Adam Williams, a student at Las Lomas High School, was found Friday night at a park lookout point along with that of his mother, Judith Williams, 51, of Walnut Creek.
"Sheriff's Capt. Daniel Terry said investigators found a suicide note at the Walnut Creek home that the mother and son shared. The handgun used in the shootings was registered to Judith Williams, he said.
"Adam Williams, who would have been a junior at Las Lomas this fall, was a member of the cross-country and track teams. An outpouring of grief appeared on a Facebook page created in his memory.
"His father, Jim Williams said a memorial is set for Friday in Fair Oaks, outside Sacramento, where he lives. Jim and Judith Williams were divorced.
"Jim Williams said that his ex-wife had fallen into dire financial hardships recently."
