3 Dead After Thanksgiving Day Hostage Situation

"MEMPHIS, TN — A gunman who held three women at gunpoint Thanksgiving night shot one to death as she attempted to flee after her father arrived at in an apartment complex near Interstate 40 and Whitten, Memphis police said.

"The father also died, although the cause of his death is not clear, and police discovered the gunman dead in the apartment of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"The 56-year-old father and his 22-year-old daughter died outside an apartment building at 6633 Rainbrook in the Greenbrook apartment community, near Macon between Sycamore View and Whitten roads.

"Memphis police said in a statement Friday that the identities of the victims and of the dead suspect would not be released at that point.

"About 10:40 p.m., police responded to a report of a shooting that shattered the holiday on Rainbrook, one of many similar lanes of two-story apartment complexes in the large, tree-studded Greenbrook community.

"According to a preliminary investigation, police said the gunman had held the 22-year-old woman and two others, ages 22 and 24, inside the women’s apartment.

"After the father arrived, his daughter ran from the second-story apartment, according to police. The man gave chase, firing shots that killed the her.

"The father also died on the walkway outside the apartments, but because of a heart condition, the cause of his death will be determined by the Shelby County Medical Examiner’s Office, police said.

"While the gunman temporarily left the apartment to chase the woman he killed, the two remaining women in the apartment escaped through a second-story bedroom window and were not injured, police said.

"The man returned to the apartment after the shooting. Police found a large crowd gathered around the father and daughter, who died on the scene."

  1. No matter what people say about the suspect, i know him personaly. He was agreat guy aside from his horrific and inhumain mistakes on 11/26/10. Once the real story unvails, we will all see that he is not the monster that is portraid by his actions. the young female victim had her whole life ahead of her. As a result of her unfaithful/infadelity, she paid the altimate price. No one deserves it but she should have remaind true. Everyone who really new the suspect knows that the Davis family did something to the susepect/my friend to make him lose his mind. The two were to get married! He turn his entire life and left philly to be with this girl who he loved and she was untrue to him. He is not a monster, just a man who life through a curve and didnt make the best of it. WE love you D and will miss you home boy! And as for the victims, im sorry this is the curve life threw such a young beautiful person. May your death not be in vien.

  3. I knew him as well, and he was always smiling and only had nice things to say. However, what you see on the outside isn't always what is on the inside. May peace be with the families at this horrible time.

  5. I don't have to know a person to understand the situation. No matter what type of relations they had; murder and holding someone hostage is evil! It does not come from God and only causes hurt to everyone around it. Whether it is your father, brother or son. One should never try and defend such a heinous crime. We all face curve balls in life and unless someone is physically threatening your life or anothers, then there is no excuse, only a sad loss.
