Police Searching For Motive In Death Of Couple
"CHARTER OAK, CA — A man and woman were found dead Monday in Charter Oak in what homicide investigators said appears to be a murder-suicide.
"Deputies responded to a house in the 5000 block of Jenifer Avenue at 5:19 p.m. for a `suspicious circumstances` call, Sheriff's Homicide Lt. Don Slawson said.
"Inside the home, deputies discovered a dead man and woman, believed to be a couple that lived inside the home, Slawson said.
"Officials had not yet released the names of those deceased because they were awaiting notification of family members.
"The man had suffered a fatal gunshot wound, Slawson said.
"A handgun was found in the `proximity` of the body, Slawson said.
"Investigators had yet to determine the woman's cause of death, but she may have also been killed by a gunshot, Slawson said.
"`We still don't know,` he said.
"A medical examiner from the coroner's department had yet to inspect the bodies late Monday.
"A friend of one of the people who was found dead called police, Slawson said.
"`A friend received a phone call from one of the occupants (of the house) who said call the police,` Slawson said.
"The friend went to the home and waited outside for deputies, Slawson said.
"Slawson said investigators had yet to interview the friend or establish a possible motive for the probable murder-suicide."
