Sheriff's Deputy Is Victim In Georgia Murder/Suicide

"SILOAM, GA — Authorities say a gunman who was the likely target of an investigation shot and killed a 48-year-old Greene County sheriff's deputy at his home [on Hickory Street] and then turned the gun on himself.

"Greene County Sheriff Chris Houston said Kevin Roberts, the county's chief deputy, was shot and killed Sunday morning by a gunman who knocked on his door. He said the suspect, whose name was not released, then fatally shot himself.

"The sheriff said the gunman was likely the target of an ongoing undercover drug investigation, but he said Roberts wasn't involved in the probe.

"The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and several other agencies are investigating."
