"They Were A Happy Family"

"ERIE, PA — Shortly before 11 o'clock Saturday morning, Erie police were called to this home at 601 East 10th street to check on the welfare of those inside. After arriving, they forced their way into the home and uncovered a deadly scene.

"Four bodies were found in the kitchen of the home; a 29-year-old male, a 27-year-old female and the two daughters of the female, ages seven and four. All died of gun shot wounds.

"Erie Deputy Coroner Dennis Suschek pronounced all four dead at 12:04 p.m. and also reported the 2-year-old son of the mother was also in the house at the time the shootings occurred.

"`To my understanding there was a 2-year-old boy transported to Hamot with an unknown injury,` Suschek said.

"Erie police have confirmed the boy is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

"Erie detectives and officers were at the scene for several hours collecting evidence and have yet to make an official ruling. They are, however, investigating it as a murder-suicide...

"`I was upstairs and I was trying to put my baby to sleep. And at 10:30 we heard gunshots but we thought nothing of it. She was nice to me. They were a happy family, never seen them argue or nothing,` said Olivia Shultz, a neighbor."
