Shocking Discovery
"CORBIN, KY — A shocking discovery inside a southern Kentucky home.
"Police say they found an elderly couple dead, and investigators think it may have been a murder-suicide.
"Police found 93-year-old Lloyd Walters and 85-year-old Mattie Walters inside their home on 802 West Fifth Street in Corbin Tuesday, after their son and neighbors reported not seeing them for days.
"Investigators say both had been shot.
"Police are still calling this a death investigation for the time being, but they are leaning towards ruling it a murder-suicide.
"The Walters had lived in the house for more than 20 years.
"Neighbors say Mattie Walters' health had recently taken a turn for the worse.
"They say she was showing signs of Dementia or memory loss, and neighbors say caring for her was taking a toll on her husband.
"`He said he was ready for her to go to the nursing home, because he had took care of her as long as he could,` neighbor Edna Monroe said. `She was getting out and walking up the street, and Halloween night she was out on the front porch over there and he couldn't get her in the house.`
"Neighbors say Lloyd Walters recently retired from a grocery business, and Mattie Walters was a retired nurse, and had worked on the Psych Ward at the old Corbin Hospital.
"Neighbors also say while Mattie Walters' health was poor, Lloyd seemed to be in good health."
