1 Dead, 1 Critical After Doggie Dispute

"LINCOLN, NE — A 28-year-old Lincoln man clings to life at a local hospital after being shot four to six times as a dispute about his dog turned violent.

"The suspect, 40-year-old Scott Brus, appears to have died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

"Lincoln Police Chief Jim Peschong said during a news briefing this morning that Brus fled the scene after shooting Isaac Durr several times. Lancaster County deputies followed in a slow pursuit. Brus drove into an alley, ran into two parked cars, then wrecked his 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix on a utility pole. Three deputies approached the car. Brus was pronounced dead at the scene of a single gunshot wound to the head.

"Durr is listed in stable, but critical condition at a Lincoln hospital.

"Peschong said Brus confronted Durr, a neighbor, about his dog. Brus had a history of complaining that the dog defecated in his yard and barked too loudly. The heated words turned violent.

"`It’s really disappointing that someone would think that a dog defecating in someone’s yard that they had to result to pulling out a handgun and shooting someone as a result of it,` Peschong said."
