Two Dead After Argument In Van
"MATINECOCK, NY — A man and woman killed in an alleged Matinecock murder-suicide Monday were a divorced couple who had gotten into an argument as they were stopped in their minivan on Oyster Bay Road, Nassau police said Tuesday.
"Police didn't give a motive, but said Eddy Abregu, 51, who sat in the passenger's seat, shot his ex-wife, Clara Urbina-Villalobos, 45, once. Abregu then turned the gun on himself, police said.
"It was unclear why the two were together Tuesday. Geoffrey Whitely, 51, who lives next door, said Urbina-Villalobos was often at her former husband's apartment. Whitely said he'd never heard arguments. Abregu, Whitely said, was hardworking and cheerful.
"Urbina-Villalobos `seemed like a nice lady,` Whitely said.
"The bodies were discovered Monday morning when a motorist reported seeing a disturbance in the van, said Det. Lt. John Azzata, commanding officer of the Nassau Homicide Squad.
"Police found Urbina-Villalobos in the driver's seat and Abregu in the passenger's seat. A handgun was found in the car."
