Bodies Found During Welfare Check

"HENRIETTA TWP, MI — Detectives from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office are investigating a homicide and suicide inside a Henrietta Township home.

"A 60-year-old woman and her 76-year-old husband are dead from gunshot wounds, according to a news release from the sheriff's office. Their names have not been released.

"It appears the man shot himself, the release stated. Detectives are still on scene investigating what happened.

"A sheriff's deputy found the two about 4:30 p.m. inside their home in the 6000 block of Hawkins Road. The deputy went to the house to conduct a welfare check, according to the release.

"This is the second murder-suicide this week in Jackson County. On Tuesday, Paul Matteson shot and killed his wife and then himself. Matteson, 89, walked into his wife's room at the RidgeCrest Health Campus and shot her in the head. Mary Matteson, 87, died later at Allegiance Health."
