Bodies Found After Missing Person Report

"CUMRU TWP, PA — Two bodies found inside an apartment in Cumru Township early Tuesday were the result of a murder-suicide, authorities said.

"Edward Arrivello Jr., 54, who lived in the unit at the Gov. Mifflin Apartments, shot and stabbed Karen Wanner, 54, Shoemakersville, before turning his gun on himself, Cumru police said Tuesday night.

"Police found the bodies about 4:30 a.m. after going to the apartment to check on Wanner, who had previously lived with Arrivello in the unit on 107 Colonial Drive, investigators said.

"It was unclear when the murder and suicide occurred.

"Investigators gave this account:

"Cumru police and state police from the Hamburg station investigating a missing persons report on Wanner entered the apartment and discovered the bodies in a bedroom at the rear of the unit.

"It was unclear who filed the missing persons report.

"The Berks County coroner's office, a state police crime scene unit and a forensic pathologist were called to assist in the investigation, which concluded with the ruling that Arrivello killed Wanner and then himself.

"The coroner's office ruled Wanner's death a homicide and Arrivello's death a suicide, according to Deputy Coroner Ken Moyer.

"Cumru police said Wanner suffered a single gunshot wound and several stab wounds, while Arrivello suffered a single self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police did not say where on their bodies they were wounded.

"A knife and a handgun were recovered at the scene, police said."
