Police Route Traffic Around Crime Scene

"SAN DIEGO, CA — The gunfire near the the intersection of 55th Street and El Cajon Boulevard was reported shortly before 10 a.m., according to San Diego police.

"Investigators said that a 22 year old female victim, a recent SDSU graduate, was discovered in the middle of 55th street with several gunshot wounds. She was transported to Scripps Mercy Hospital but was pronounced dead at 10:29 am.

"Officers searching the area shortly thereafter discovered a second shooting victim, a 21 year old male, in a pickup truck across the street. The two were believed to be romantically involved in the past, and preliminary investigation indicates that the shooting was a murder-suicide.

"Police blocked off traffic lanes in the area due to the crash.

"Officers have tentatively identified both victims but are withholding release of the names at this time."
