Two Dead After Violent Breakup

"MIDDLEBURG, FL — Two people have died following a shooting near Middleburg this afternoon.

"According to the Clay County Sheriff's Office, the incident was a murder-suicide involving a long-time boyfriend and girlfriend.

"Investigators are not releasing their identities at this time.

"Deputies said the woman's child, who was in the home at the time of the shooting, went to a neighbor's house to call for help. That child will be taken into the custody of the Division of Children and Families.

"On Monday, the sheriff's office reported serving a warrant to someone in that home, but declined to release further details about that at this time.

"The man involved in the shooting called the sheriff's office yesterday to report that a gun had been stolen from the home.

"The shooting happened after 3 p.m. at a home on Southlake Drive, just off County Road 220."
