Hostage Situation Turns Into Botched Murder/Suicide

"MOBILE, AL — Mobile police say a 28-year-old man shot and wounded another man, then killed himself after a standoff that started when he took a couple hostage.

"Police Chief Micheal T. Williams says police responded to a domestic disturbance Thursday. He says when officers arrived, Rasmee Moffett fired a handgun several times and retreated into the home, taking the woman and man hostage.

"Police attempted to talk to Moffett. Williams says officers had more success staying in touch with the hostages.

"Williams says Moffett demanded a face-to-face conversation with his father. The chief says that could not be arranged, and Moffett then shot the male hostage before shooting himself.

"The wounded man was shot in the leg and was taken to a hospital."
