Cornered Killer Shoots Himself At Bus Station

"RICHMOND, VA — The man wanted in the killing of an off-duty New Jersey corrections officer committed suicide in Richmond, Va. this morning after a brief run-in with the U.S. Marshal’s Service this morning, authorities said.

"Allen Barron, 21, shot himself once in the head at a Greyhound Bus Depot after aiming a handgun at a U.S. Marshal, according to Kevin Connolly, supervisor of a U.S. Marshal’s Task Force in Richmond.

"Virginia law enforcement officials were asked to be on the lookout for Barron, who was charged with killing 37-year-old Katrina Owens sometime this morning, Connolly said.

"Marshal’s task force members and Richmond police closed in on Barron around 10:40 a.m., and when a federal marshal walked past him to get a `discreet look,` Barron brandished a handgun and aimed it at a marshal briefly before shooting himself, Connolly said.

"The officers were not in uniform and had not even announced they were looking for Barron, according to Connolly, who said Barron must have assumed the person near him was a federal marshal.

"Owens was killed on Columbia Avenue in Newark around 12:30 this morning, part of a bloody 45-minute span that left three people dead and two others hospitalized in the state’s largest city, authorities said."
