Woman Hospitalized After Attempted Murder/Suicide

"VIPER, KY — Police in Perry County are investigating an apparent murder-suicide.

"Police say they responded to a shooting call at Campbell Branch in the Viper Community around 6:25 p.m. Thursday. Preliminary investigation indicates Jeffery David Branson, 49, shot Pamela Joy Smith, 44, and then turned the gun on himself.

"EMS transported Smith to Hazard ARH. She was later transferred to UK Hospital. There is no word on her condition.

"A Perry County coroners office official pronounced Branson dead at the scene.

"Police continue to investigate."
