County Cops Get The Suicide, City Cops Get The Murder

"LAUREL, MD — Laurel police are investigating the Wednesday morning shooting of a woman in Laurel, followed by the suspect’s suicide.

"At 7:59 a.m., police received a call about a shooting outside of 14708 Shiloh Court in Laurel, in the Summeryln Place apartment complex, said Laurel spokesman Jim Collins.

"Collins said police cannot release the victim’s name until all family members are notified.

"Investigators believe the victim was shot by somebody she knew, Collins said.

"Collins said 10 minutes after the initial call, police received another call that witnesses saw a man shoot himself in the 9100 block of Cherry Lane, just outside city limits. The man matched the description of the man who witnesses allegedly saw flee the apartment complex, Collins said.

"`The Prince George’s County police will handle that suicide investigation and Laurel is handling the homicide,` Collins said. `The joint investigation will be to figure out the motive and why he shot her and then himself.`

"Collins said police believe the woman had four children and looked to be in her 30s.

"`I really can’t verify the age at this time,` he said."
