Shooter Misses Twice, Held On $1M Bail

"YUCCA VALLEY, CA — A Yucca Valley man fired several shots into an occupied residence before attempting to kill himself early this morning, San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies said.

"Deputies were called to the 56000 block of Navajo Trail in Yucca Valley around 4:37 a.m., according to a sheriff's press release. They found 51-year-old John Smith standing near the street with a rifle before he shot himself, deputies said.

"Deputies later determined that Smith fired several shots into a residence in an attempt to shoot an ex-girlfriend, the release read. No one was injured.

"After being treated at a hospital, Smith was booked into jail for attempted murder. His bail is set at $1 million."
