"INDEPENDENCE TWP, MI — Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a murder-suicide that happened about 2:40 a.m. Saturday morning in Independence Township.
"According to the sheriff’s office, a 19-year-old woman arrived home from a night out with friends and called 911 to report that there was a man in her house, in the 4700 block of Whipple Lake Road, with a gun.
"She said she believed her parents had been shot by the man and that she was hiding in her bedroom.
"The daughter said she knew the suspect from her job at the Salvation Army in Oxford where she works. She said he had been doing required community service there and that he had shown an interest in her, but she let him know that she had a boyfriend.
"Deputies arrived at the scene to find that both parents had been shot. The suspect, a 25-year-old man from Holly Township, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his chest in the couple’s bedroom. The gun was found near him.
"Both parents, a 56-year-old mother and 50-year-old father, were transported to POH Regional Medical Center in Pontiac, where the mother was in critical condition.
"She was pronounced dead at the hospital around 4:20 a.m.
"The father is in stable condition after suffering a gunshot wound to the shoulder.
"The Oakland County Medical Examiner will be conducting autopsies on the suspect and mother.
"Identities of those involved have not been released."
