Workers Discover Bodies In Burning House
"ESCONDIDO, CA — Escondido police are investigating the possible murder-suicide of a man and a woman whose bodies were found Monday morning inside a home after a fire.
"The fire was reported about 7:10 a.m. at the house on Valle Lindo Road. The home sits directly behind a produce stand on East Valley Parkway, just north of Beven Drive.
"Workers at the stand called firefighters after discovering the bodies in the house, which belongs to the owners of the produce business, said Escondido police Lt. Chris Wynn.
"The owner usually meets the employees to open for business and when he didn't show up they went to investigate, Wynn said.
"The employees opened a door at the house and found the bodies in the master bedroom, Wynn said.
"The man and the woman each died from a single gunshot wound to the head. A small handgun was found on the floor near their bodies, Wynn said.
"It appears the blaze, which was mostly extinguished when firefighters arrived, was intentionally set and the home smelled of gasoline, he said.
"Authorities are continuing the investigation into the deaths. They have not released the identities of the couple."
