Victim Escapes, Perp Resuscitated By Firefighters

"CALIPATRIA, CA — A man stabbed a woman over a domestic quarrel and then tried to kill himself Tuesday evening, a fire official said.

"The victim was stabbed in the upper chest area while in her residence around or before 6:30 p.m., Calipatria Fire Capt. Jesse Llanas said.

"After stabbing the victim the suspect fled the house, located in the 400 Block of Commercial Avenue, according Imperial County Sheriff’s Office call logs.

"The suspect was later found inside a deep drainage with no pulse, Llanas said, and firefighters performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation until an ambulance reached the site.

"The assailant and the victim survived, Llanas said, adding that policy prevented him from revealing further details.

"Sheriff’s office logs do not say how the suicide attempt occurred and no one in the Calipatria Police Department was available for comment by deadline Wednesday night."
