Woman Expected To Survive Botched Murder/Suicide
"HOLMES BEACH, FL — Holmes Beach police are investigating an attempted murder-suicide that occurred Sunday evening in the 200 block of 83rd Street.
"Officers located a 66-year-old woman outside of the single-family residence. It was apparent that she had suffered a gunshot wound to the back of the head.
"She was alert and able to communicate briefly with officers, before she was airlifted to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg.
"Officers then located Joseph Schon, 69, in a bedroom. He was pronounced dead at the scene from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
"Holmes Beach Police Chief Jay Romine described the shooting as a `murder-suicide attempt.`
"`It’s pretty apparent at this time what happened,` Romine said.
"Romine said he hasn’t been able to interview the victim yet but added she is expected to recover.
"He said Schon used a .38-caliber revolver, and that several rounds were fired inside the home.
"`That’s still in the investigative stage,` Romine said.
"Romine said Schon left no note, and that his medical history is not known."
