Shooter Fails At Murder & "Suicide By Cop"

"CLEVELAND, OH — A Cleveland man was in critical condition late last night at MetroHealth Medical Center after five Cleveland police officers fired at him when, police said, he refused to drop his gun and waved it at them threateningly.

"Second District Commander Keith Sulzer said the man, whose name had not been released, shot a woman he had lived with on West 37th Street during a domestic dispute about 9:30 p.m.

"The woman, whose name also was not released, was shot in the neck, Sulzer said. She was also taken to MetroHealth.

"Neighbors heard gunshots and called police, who found the man standing at West 37th Street and Mapledale Avenue holding the gun, Sulzer said.

"Police warned him repeatedly to drop the weapon, Sulzer said. He told police he wanted to have a shootout and waved the gun at them, according to police.

"He was hit by police bullets several times.

"The department will investigate the shooting and the incident that led up to it, Sulzer said."
