Botched Murder/Suicide Leaves 1 Dead, 1 Wounded

"FORT PIERCE, FL - St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office detectives are investigating an attempted murder-suicide after a woman was fatally shot and her husband wounded in Fort Pierce.

Deputies were called to a shooting in the 2800 block of South 27th Street shortly after 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

"According to the incident report, deputies arrived to find a man lying on his stomach and a woman slumped over, both suffering from gunshot wounds, outside the driveway of a home. Deputies also found a rifle on the ground near the victims.

"The woman, later identified as Maria Raya, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Her husband, identified as Jose Raya, was taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his head."
