Custody Dispute Leaves Two Men Dead

"TANNER, AL - Early Sunday morning deputies and emergency personnel responded to a 911 call around 1:30am in Limestone County.

"A dispute at a residence off Huntsville Brownferry Road turned deadly when an unidentified male shot 23 year old Clinton Roberts multiple times with a 12 gauge shotgun killing him.

"A witness to the shooting, a white female, was not harmed and has been taken into protective custody for questioning.

"The altercation started because of a child custody dispute between Mr. Roberts and his ex-wife. After the incident, the shooter fled the residence in his truck. Just five minutes later, Alabama State troopers along with emergency personnel responded to a vehicle accident on Snake Road.

"Authorities discovered the two emergency calls were in fact linked with each other.

"Troopers working the accident say the shooter's truck ran off the road, travelling about 100 feet before hitting a utility pole knocking down power lines.

"According to authorities, the driver then tried to back the vehicle out. After failing to get his truck free, the man then turned the shotgun on himself.

"The 23 year old unidentified man was believed to have lived off of Shaw Road and returning home.

"The identity of the shooter is being withheld until his family is notified. Both Roberts and the shooter's bodies were taken to Huntsville for an autopsy."
