Mistaken Identity Suspected In Murder/Suicide

"MOUNT PLEASANT, MI — A 25-year-old Mount Pleasant man is dead after he was shot inside a Mount Pleasant bar and restaurant near the Central Michigan University campus about 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, Mount Pleasant police officials say.

"They said the shooter later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a police chase resulted in a crash near the intersection of Crawford and Millbrook in Lincoln Township, south of The Cabin, 900 W. Broomfield, where the original shooting transpired.

"`At the intersection of Millbrook the car failed to negotiate a curve in the road, leaving the roadway and crashed,` police officials said. `Upon approaching the suspect was found lying next to his vehicle with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.`

Both men were pronounced dead upon arrival to Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mount Pleasant.

"The suspected shooter was armed with a Glock handgun, a 39-calibur assault weapon, two fully-loaded ammunition cartridges and a Kevlar bullet resistant vest.

"`Preliminary investigation revealed that this incident may have been the result of an ongoing domestic situation and that the 25-year-old victim may have been mistaken for another individual by the suspect,` police officials said."
