Youngest Murder/Suicide?

"CHINO HILLS, CA - Authorities on Wednesday were trying to sort out the mysterious deaths of two young brothers found shot to death near their family's home in a rural part of Chino Hills.

"Detectives said they are not actively looking for a suspect but said it's too early to conclude the incident was a murder-suicide. They said foul play has not been ruled out.

"`The initial indication at the scene is that they don't have an outstanding suspect, that this incident occurred with just the two boys involved. However, they have not completely ruled out foul play,` said San Bernardino County sheriff's spokeswoman Cindy Bachman.

"The two brothers were found shot to death Tuesday in a ravine near their family's mobile home -- stunning neighbors who described the boys as fun-loving and friendly.

"Authorities said they received a call shortly before noon from a family member who discovered the bodies of Bryan Gonzalez, 12, and Christian Gonzalez, 10. They were found about 60 feet behind the Gonzalez home, which is on a ranch on Mystic Canyon Drive between Twin Knowles Drive and Via La Cresta.

"The family's home is in Mystic Hills near Chino Hills State Park and just off the Chino Valley Freeway. Several families live in homes on the ranch, and there is a firewood operation on the property."

"MOLINE, IL - Tonight Moline police say they are not searching for suspects after two elderly residents were found shot to death inside their home this morning.

"It's a neighborhood filled with manicured lawns and mature trees, a picturesque Q.C. street on Moline's western border. It's not the kind of place you'd expect to see police first thing on a Wednesday morning.

"Neighbors gathered on their front porches wondering what had happened in the keenly kept home on 2nd Street. One neighbor stopped by after not hearing from the elderly owners for a few days. The last time anyone saw them was during their garage sale this weekend. Boxes stacked on tables in the garage greeted police as they broke in to investigate.

"`They shook the window in front and got the screen open`, explained neighbor Lewis Viviani, `and one of the police went inside. They found them in the basement.`

"Neighbors told us the bodies were of 85 year old Alice Poling and, her husband, 78 year old Virgil. He was known to the American Legion Honor Guard as `Gene`. Post 246 members say the couple was active with the hall. Gene served in Korea. Neither they nor neighbors heard either mention being ill but described their personalities as strong. No one could imagine what police told them they found, Alice shot and Gene holding a gun.

"Peters, 55, and her daughter, Corinne Peters, had both apparently been shot in the head, a city official said. There was no sign of forced entry at their home in the 700 block of Greenway Drive.

"City spokeswoman Sharon Logan said police are investigating whether the deaths were a murder-suicide, but it was too soon to say who may have committed the killings. No one else lived at the home.

Quiet Neighborhood Shocked By Murder/Suicide

"POESTENKILL, NY - A 70-year-old man who may have been mentally ill shot and wounded his daughter and his granddaughter’s boyfriend before fatally shooting himself in a Poestenkill home Tuesday afternoon, Rensselaer County Sheriff Jack Mahar said.

"The violent scene at 9403 Route 66, which unfolded shortly before 3 p.m., left Laurie Fisher, 49, and Anthony Delgado, 24, hospitalized at Albany Medical Center Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injures, officials said. Robert Pryor, the suspected shooter, was pronounced dead an hour later.

"Mahar said the preliminary investigation suggests mental health problems on the part of Pryor, who moved to the home under a month ago, but a specific motive was not known. Pryor was being assisted by Fisher’s daughter and Delgado, who were living at the home to help him with medical issues, Mahar said.

"He said the shooting does not appear to have been precipitated by an argument. Sometime Tuesday afternoon, Fisher, who was visiting, and Delgado left the home to go to the store but were contacted via cell phone and asked to return by Pryor, Mahar said.

"`Upon returning to the house, the suspect fired on the two as they entered the house and then shot himself,` he said.

"Four shots were fired in total from a revolver, Mahar said, and the two victims were each struck at least once in the chest. Pryor succumbed to a single gunshot wound to the head.

"Fisher’s daughter was not in the home at the time.

"After the shooting, Fisher was able to contact 911, and responding deputies found Pryor unconscious but alive on the sofa in the front room, where the shooting took place, as well as the victims. At least one was rushed to the hospital in a State Police helicopter.

"Mahar said three weapons were found in the vicinity of Pryor, but only one was used in the shooting. There are other weapons in the home, including firearms, he said.

"As several dogs barked in the backyard from behind a fence, authorities huddled under a tent in the rain as they awaited a search warrant to fully inspect the premises. District Attorney Richard McNally was on the scene being briefed on the incident.

"The shooting shocked neighbors, who described the neighborhood as a quiet one."

Deaths Of Twins Ruled Murder/Suicide

"PARRYVILLE, PA - The 58-year-old twin brothers from Carbon County who shared a violent past and both died this week of gunshot wounds were likely a murder-suicide, Coroner Bruce Nalesnik said Friday.

"Gerald J. Avvisato, who was seen shooting himself at a gas station Tuesday, first likely shot and killed his brother Nicholas P. Avvisato in the apartment where they lived together in Parryville, he said.

"The twin brothers apparently have lived together for decades in various communities, but they had a history of drunkenness and fighting.

"Nalesnik said that history led state police to make forced entry into their apartment Wednesday. The brothers lived in the 300 block of Centre Street in Parryville, a borough of about 500 residents between Lehighton and Palmerton along Route 248.

"Authorities found Nicholas with a fatal shotgun wound to his abdomen lying on the kitchen floor. Gerald shot himself with a handgun while parked in a car wash stall at a Shell gas station on Route 209 in Towamensing Township near Palmerton."

"Why? We Don't Have A Clue."

"TORONTO, OH - A father shot his 3-year-old son twice, killing him, before turning the gun on himself and taking his own life at a house at 200 Ridgeland Drive, Toronto, early today, Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla said.

"The father, Joseph Boone, 41, started a fire in the basement of the home before the murder-suicide, Abdalla said.

"`Why? We don't have a clue,` Abdalla said about the motive behind the tragedy. He said it appeared money problems may have sparked the incident.

"Two deputies responding to the call entered the smoke-filled house around 1:20 a.m. today and discovered the bodies, the sheriff said.

"Abdalla said it wasn't the first time Boone had threatened to burn down the house. He said a similar call was received on April 20. Deputies responded, talked to Boone and turned the matter over to mental health officials, Abdalla said.

"The boy's mother, Nicole Martin, was separated from Boone and was working at a bar in Stratton, Abdalla said. A friend of Martin's got a call around 1 a.m. from Boone saying he was going to burn down the house. The friend ran to the bar to tell Martin, who called the sheriff's department. Abdalla said deputies told Martin not to go to to the home.

"Deputies Chris Vinci and Carl Brozka arrived at the Ridgeland home and saw smoke. Abdalla said the doors were locked but the deputies broke in through a sliding glass door at the rear of the house.

"Vinci and Brozka went into the smoke-filled home, searching for anyone inside. Abdalla said the smoke was very thick and the deputies were overcome. Abdalla said Vinci found the bodies in a bedroom but there was nothing the deputy could do.

"Abdalla said the boy, Hunter J. Boone, was shot in the side and in the head.

"Joseph Boone had lit a fire in the basement and poured gasoline on the first floor but Abdalla said the gasoline didn't ignite.

"Abdalla said Boone in the past couple weeks had been making threats to other people that he was going to burn down the house instead of letting a bank take the property. The sheriff said it appeared Boone was having financial problems and discovered papers associated with bankruptcy court."
