Bodies Found In Field

"HILLSBORO, OR — Detectives are on scene investigating an apparent murder-suicide where a 54-year-old man fatally shot his 6-year-old son before taking his own life.

"Information from the preliminary investigation indicates that the man shot his son once in the head, before shooting himself in the head, said Lt. Mike Rouches, a Hillsboro police spokesman. Their names were not released, pending notification of next of kin.

"Police responded to the location, in the 5500 block of Southeast Golden Road, about 4:30 p.m. today. Rouches said investigators believe the crime occurred between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

"Investigators found the man's car behind a church at the location and then found the bodies about 30 yards away in a field. Investigators do not know a motivation behind the killing, and have not located a suicide note, Rouches said.

"Rouches said the man's wife died a few years ago, and that he and his son were currently living with his sister in Hillsboro."
