Three Dead At Assisted Living Facility

"BRIGHAM CITY, UT — A couple and their grown son are dead following an apparent murder-suicide at an assisted-living facility, police said.

"The three lived together at an apartment at Discovery Place, 360 W. 900 North, said Brigham City police Lt. Mike Nelsen. Just before noon, other residents reported hearing loud bangs and the sprinklers began spraying water, he said.

"When officers entered the apartment, they found the three dead of rifle wounds, he said.

"`It looks like a murder-suicide,` Nelsen said. Officers are investigating which of the three fired the gun. Police had not previously responded to any domestic violence calls at the apartment.

"The facility, a two-story brown-and-tan structure, has been open less than a year. The names, ages and previous hometowns of the three were not immediately released.

"Stephanie Weeks, an employee at Discovery Place, said the son was in his late 20s or early 30s, and his parents were in their mid-50s. The health of both the son and his mother had been deteriorating, she said.

"The son had used a wheelchair since suffering a traumatic brain injury while skiing several years ago, shortly before he was scheduled to leave on a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she said.

"No one at the facility saw any signs of trouble, she said."

  1. Hi Dude,

Assisted living facility may be a good choice if you need more personal care services than you can get at home or an independent living retirement community, but you don’t needs the round the clock medical care and supervision of a nursing home. Thanks.
