"Ongoing Domestic Situation" Ends Abruptly


"SALISBURY, NC — Officials say two Salisbury men were shot and killed in eastern Rowan County Wednesday afternoon in an apparent murder-suicide.

"The incident happened around 1:45 p.m. at 1174 Trexler Road.

"When Rowan County Sheriff's deputies arrived, they found two men deceased due to gunshot wounds. Sheriff Kevin Auten said both men were shot in the chest with a 12-gauge shotgun.

"The victims have been identified as Bruce Yount Stewart Jr., 45, of 1174 Trexler Road, and Lester Clay Efird, 63, of 7308 Stokes Ferry Road.

"Deputies said the shooting stemmed from an ongoing domestic-related situation.

"At this time, the case is being investigated as a murder-suicide and no gunman is assumed to be on the loose.

"Both bodies have been sent to the NC Medical Examiner's Office for autopsies."
