Killer Fires On Firemen Before Shooting Himself
"LOGAN TWP, PA — Blair County authorities have ruled the deaths of a Logan Township couple as a murder-suicide.
"Bonnie Smeal, 61, was found dead inside the Ponderosa Drive home that police said was set ablaze early Wednesday by her husband, Terry, 66. Bonnie Smeal's death was ruled a homicide, Blair County Coroner Patricia Ross said.
"Terry Smeal shot at Logan Township officers responding to the fire but didn't injure them, township Police Chief Ron Heller said.
"Heller said when officers arrived on the scene about 1:05 a.m., they found Terry Smeal watching the home burn and after talking to him for a moment, he opened fire.
"After a search with the help of Altoona and state police, Terry Smeal's body was found outside under rubble from at the rear of the burning house, Heller said. He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Ross said."
