Janitor Finds Bodies

"MALDEN, MA — Two people were found shot dead yesterday in a high-rise apartment building downtown, authorities said.

"A janitor conducting a check of a seventh-floor apartment at 36 Dartmouth St. discovered the bodies of two people in separate bedrooms, with obvious gunshot wounds, Middlesex District Attorney Gerard T. Leone Jr. and Malden Police Chief James Holland said yesterday.

"`The incident appears to be isolated and should not be cause for local, [or] greater public, concern,` their statement said.

"The names, ages, and gender of the victims were not released.

"Autopsies will be conducted by the office of the chief medical examiner.

"Neighbors said that two men in their 60s or 70s lived in the apartment.

"`They were very pleasant,` said one neighbor, who lives on the seventh floor, but declined to give her name for safety concerns. `But they kept to themselves. They’ve been here for years.`"
